Iaido is the traditional art of the Japanese sword. More literally, "the way of drawing the sword." It is a fine art with deep Zen connections. Calm, meditative, and challenging in its detail and precision. It's not all deep reverence, though. It's friendly, social, and fun as well.

Our Iaido in Wellingborough began with a short introductory course in Wollaston from January 2025, and the popular classes have continued to grow since then. Planned renovations to the hall in Wollaston meant a move to Rushden from 7th September, 2026, which brought a new, spacious venue with parking on site. Classes are held:

7 - 8.30 p.m. on a Monday evening

and are taught by Barry Jones, whose long experience in Iaido includes dan grades in two different Iaido schools.

What You Need To Start Iaido.

Nothing. We will supply wooden swords for you to begin your journey with. (Real swords are too dangerous to use until you have some experience.)

Students under 18
Most students of Iaido are adults. It is possible for young people and sometimes for children to take part. If you are interested in enrolling someone under 18, please talk to Barry about that.
